JIBWIS Sponsors Wedding Of 30 Orphans, Empowers Others – Daily Trust
The Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) has sponsored the wedding of 30 female orphans and extended financial support to additional beneficiaries to help them build sustainable livelihoods.
The initiative was unveiled during a wedding ceremony held on Wednesday in Abuja. Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the JIBWIS Orphans Committee in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abdullahi A. Diggi, explained that the support was carefully structured according to merit and need to ensure fairness and lasting impact.
How the support was structured
- Ten brides who excelled in a complete Quran memorization competition received full sets of household furniture along with N300,000 each to support their immediate needs and those of their husbands.
- Twenty other brides from within the FCT were granted N500,000 each to purchase household items essential for starting their new homes. In addition, a member of the House of Representatives from Kebbi State, Sani Yakubu Noma, pledged furniture support for this group.
- Beyond the 30 brides, several other women drawn from across the 36 states and the FCT received N300,000 each as startup capital to help launch or strengthen small businesses.
Beneficiaries express gratitude
Among the brides, Maryam Hamza and Fatima Ismail expressed deep appreciation for the assistance, noting that the support eased significant financial pressures associated with marriage and setting up a home.
Representing the grooms, Salisu Abdulqadir and Muhammad Mansur also thanked JIBWIS for underwriting the weddings and providing essential resources that will help the couples begin married life with greater stability.
Why it matters
The sponsorship of weddings for orphans, coupled with targeted empowerment grants, aims to reduce economic barriers that often hinder young couples and vulnerable women from achieving stability. By funding essential household needs and providing capital for small enterprises, the initiative supports both immediate welfare and long-term self-reliance.
JIBWIS emphasized that the eligibility categories were designed to reward excellence—such as Quran memorization—while also addressing broader social needs within the FCT and across Nigeria. The combination of furniture, upkeep funds, and startup capital reflects a holistic approach intended to ease the transition into marriage and encourage entrepreneurship.
With the joint efforts of community leaders and supporters, the program underscores the importance of collective responsibility in uplifting orphans and vulnerable women, helping them establish homes and livelihoods with dignity and hope for the future.
