‘Factories that THINK’ — This woman-led AI startup solves factory failures before they even happen – Singapore News
Singapore-based startup SixSense is revolutionizing semiconductor manufacturing through the power of artificial intelligence. Recently, the company secured a significant US$8.5 million (S$11.4 million) in funding to expand its reach globally. Founded by two innovative women engineers, SixSense is on a mission to create “factories that think,” driving the future of intelligent automation in an industry fraught with complexity and high stakes.
At the heart of SixSense’s mission lies “intelligent automation,” a cutting-edge, data-driven approach to semiconductor production. This method enhances efficiency, minimizes errors, and gives manufacturers greater control over their intricate processes. SixSense’s AI platform is already proving invaluable to major players in the industry, such as GlobalFoundries and JCET, by supporting fabs throughout Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Israel in early problem detection and output improvement.
“Think of it as a factory that can see, understand, and act in real-time,” explained co-founder and CTO Avni Agarwal. “We’re currently expanding into the U.S., where the demand for smarter semiconductor manufacturing is growing rapidly.”
SixSense distinguishes itself not only through innovative technology but also through strong leadership. The company was co-founded in 2018 by CEO Akanksha Jagwani and CTO Avni Agarwal, both possessing extensive expertise in engineering. Jagwani, with a background in mechanical engineering, is responsible for steering business strategy and partnerships, whereas Agarwal, an adept in computer engineering, shapes the technical vision.
Their achievements emerge amid a notable funding disparity within the venture capital world. As of 2024, startups with only female founders received a mere 2% of the total VC deal value in the U.S., highlighting the significance of SixSense’s accomplishments as the gap begins to narrow.
In its recent funding round, led by Peak XV’s Surge seed platform and joined by Alpha Intelligence Capital, FEBE Ventures, and others, SixSense’s total funding reached US$12 million. Armed with this new influx of capital, the company intends to bolster its AI-driven platform for semiconductor engineering and continue its global expansion.
As demand surges, SixSense is strategically positioned within the chip manufacturing sector. It has the resources and capability to support manufacturers in maintaining their engineering efforts. With pioneering technology, visionary leaders, and increasing investor confidence, SixSense is poised to redefine chip manufacturing on a global scale.
