NextEra Energy Subsidiary To Continue Supplying 168 MW To WPPI Energy
NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy, Inc. (NEE), announced a new power supply agreement with WPPI Energy to extend delivery of electricity from the Point Beach Nuclear Plant in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Under the arrangement, WPPI Energy will continue to receive 168 megawatts of nuclear-generated power well into the 2050s.
The continued supply from Point Beach supports grid reliability and carbon-free baseload generation for communities across the Upper Midwest. Company leadership emphasized that, with regional electricity demand on the rise, long-duration access to nuclear power remains an important component of a balanced resource portfolio. The collaboration is positioned to help WPPI Energy maintain stable, long-term power for the customers it serves.
WPPI Energy is a not-for-profit, member-based electric utility organization representing community-owned utilities in the Upper Midwest. Consistent access to nuclear energy from Point Beach is expected to aid in meeting members’ needs while supporting decarbonization goals and resource adequacy planning.
Point Beach Nuclear Plant has been a dependable source of round-the-clock electricity for decades. Extending power offtake through the 2050s provides a clearer planning horizon for both parties and helps manage exposure to fuel price volatility, given nuclear energy’s minimal fuel cost variability once in operation.
In early trading, NEE shares were up 2.75% at $85.39 on the New York Stock Exchange.
