PM Modi Celebrates Women’s Day, Highlights Nari Shakti for Viksit Bharat
On International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to India’s Nari Shakti, praising women’s determination, creativity, and zeal in driving the nation’s progress. Emphasizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat, he said women’s achievements continue to inspire the country and strengthen the collective resolve to advance development.
The Prime Minister underscored that women’s empowerment is central to numerous government schemes and initiatives, reaffirming a commitment to expand opportunities so every woman can realize her full potential and contribute meaningfully to India’s growth story.
In a comprehensive set of highlights celebrating Nari Shakti, the government showcased how women are shaping the nation’s future across defense, entrepreneurship, science and technology, governance, and community development—driven by courage, leadership, and determination. Defence and National Service
Women are taking on greater roles in the armed forces and related institutions. The expansion of opportunities includes girls preparing to wear the uniform in Sainik Schools and the first-ever female batch graduating from the National Defence Academy. With a reported sevenfold rise in women officers and pathbreakers such as Shivangi Singh becoming the country’s first woman Rafale fighter pilot, Nari Shakti continues to broaden and strengthen India’s defense ecosystem.
Entrepreneurship and Startups
Women entrepreneurs are making remarkable contributions across the startup landscape, bolstered by initiatives designed to catalyze innovation and enterprise. According to the government’s highlights, nearly half of startups now have women directors. Additionally, six out of ten MUDRA loans reportedly support women entrepreneurs, and women-cofounded tech startups collectively raised an estimated $1.1 billion in 2025—signals of growing leadership and economic participation by women across sectors.

Nearly 90 percent of deliveries now take place in health facilities, improving safety for both mothers and newborns. Over 7.16 crore checkups have facilitated the early detection of millions of high-risk pregnancies. With maternity benefits reaching nearly 8.7 crore mothers and a significant decline in maternal mortality, women’s health outcomes show sustained improvement.

Indian sportswomen continue to raise the nation’s profile on global stages. The highlights celebrated major milestones, including the maiden ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup triumph in 2025 and the historic victory in the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup 2025—moments that have inspired a new generation of athletes and fans alike.
