Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider met with Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Amin Ur Rashid at the Secretariat in Dhaka, where they discussed expanding cooperation across agriculture, fisheries, and livestock, alongside education and research.

Both sides underlined the shared characteristics of the agricultural sectors in Bangladesh and Pakistan and explored practical avenues to boost trade in agricultural products and deepen technical collaboration. The discussions touched on enhancing value chains, adopting modern farming systems, and building human capital to support long-term sectoral growth.

Focus on modernization and exports

Minister Amin Ur Rashid emphasized that Bangladesh is prioritizing high-yielding crops and advanced farming systems to increase productivity and resilience. He noted that the government is working to make agriculture more export-oriented, aiming to strengthen market access and improve standards to meet international demand.

Highlighting the potential of the Blue Economy, the minister said Bangladesh is developing sustainable technologies to responsibly harvest deep-sea resources, with a particular focus on fisheries. A comprehensive fisheries survey has been completed with support from experienced international partners, providing data to guide evidence-based policy and investment.

Education and research cooperation

High Commissioner Imran Haider expressed Pakistan’s interest in advancing partnerships in agriculture and livestock. He noted that scholarships are being offered to Bangladeshi students for higher studies in agriculture and veterinary fields at institutions in Pakistan, aiming to foster expertise, research collaboration, and technology transfer.

Both parties agreed to continue dialogue to translate these discussions into concrete initiatives, including academic exchanges, joint research, and potential trade facilitation measures that support farmers, fishers, and agribusinesses in both countries.
