Union Minister Scindia Reveals When Satellite Internet Service Will Roll Out in India
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently unveiled the Sanchar Mitra Scheme, designed to bolster the connectivity between the telecom sector and the general public. During this significant event, Scindia addressed queries regarding the timeline for launching satellite communication services within India. He clarified that the timing would ultimately hinge upon the individual companies’ decisions once they receive licenses and spectrum allocations in alignment with established regulations.
According to Scindia, the government’s role is to issue licenses to companies that meet the stipulated conditions, and progress is evident as two companies have already accomplished this, with a third on the verge of completion. The union minister affirmed the government’s assurance in granting licenses to compliant entities, highlighting that spectrum allocation would adhere to the regulatory framework devised by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Furthermore, it was emphasized that the after-allocation trajectory for these companies remains to be charted by the companies themselves.
In addition to discussing satellite communication, Scindia introduced the theme “Innovate to Transform” for the anticipated 9th Edition of the India Mobile Congress 2025, set to unfold in October 2025. He stressed that the nation is evolving into a hub for designing, solving, and scaling technological advancements.
The India Mobile Congress 2025 is scheduled to take place from October 8-11, 2025, at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in New Delhi. With an expected attendance of over 1.5 lakh visitors from beyond 150 nations, the event will showcase the active participation of over 400 exhibitors and partners, complemented by more than 7,000 global delegates.
This prominent event, organized by the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India, will spotlight the flagship startup program, ASPIRE. The program aims to bridge the gap for over 500 startups by connecting them with more than 300 investors, incubators, accelerators, and venture capitalists, offering them mentorship, live pitching opportunities, and crucial networking possibilities. Additionally, known as Asia’s largest digital technology forum, the India Mobile Congress is anticipated to host over 800 speakers across more than 100 conference sessions.
The elucidation of Scindia not only cast light on the prospective rollout of satellite internet but also underscored the transformative potential lying in future innovations, as spotlighted by the upcoming congress.
