Madrid-based talent VC Demium rebrands as Mission and unveils €35 million fund for Spanish startups | EU-Startups

Madrid-based talent investor Demium has rebranded as Mission and introduced a new venture fund targeting €35 million to back pre-seed startups across Spain. The fund is designed to be among the first institutional partners for founders at the earliest stages, with a focus on speed, hands-on support, and follow-on capacity.

New fund at a glance

Mission Fund I plans to invest in around 80 companies. The average initial ticket is expected to be approximately €250,000, with the ability to scale up to €2 million in the most promising cases through follow-on rounds. The firm positions itself as a first institutional investor for many of these teams, aiming to accelerate early validation and market entry.

Leadership

The fund is led by Managing Partner Jorge Dobón, with support from experienced operators and founders: Álvaro Callejo (formerly CEO of Ritmo), Julio Ribes (founder of Swipcar and Holaglow), and Mario Navarro (founder of Triple). This mix of investment and entrepreneurial experience underpins Mission’s plan to support founders beyond capital.

Strategy and positioning

As Spain’s startup ecosystem matures, founders increasingly select investors who can offer genuine partnership and practical guidance. Dobón noted that the best entrepreneurs are looking for collaborators who truly understand the founder journey and can help them navigate the earliest, most uncertain phases of company building.

From Demium to Mission

Founded in Valencia in 2013, Demium pioneered a talent-first approach, backing exceptional individuals ready to launch startups—even without a finalized idea, team, or product. In 2020, the firm launched a €50 million vehicle (Think Bigger Fund I) to invest annually in dozens of pre-seed and seed startups. Two years later, the firm expanded with a fund focused on supporting Central European startups at seed and pre-seed stages.

In 2023, Demium transitioned from an incubation model to direct equity investment. The launch of Mission consolidates this evolution, streamlining the firm’s approach under a single brand and fund structure designed for today’s technology landscape, including the rise of AI and automation.

Track record and portfolio

Over the last decade, the team behind Mission has invested in more than 250 Spanish startups. Notable companies include Citibox, Theker, Dealcar, Voicemod, Singularu, and Swipcar. This breadth of experience informs Mission’s founder-first methodology and its emphasis on rapid iteration, market testing, and long-term support through multiple funding stages.

Capital deployment and backers

Mission Fund I has already started deploying capital and has completed its first investments. The limited partner base includes founders and investors who were involved in the firm’s previous funds, signaling continuity and confidence in the updated strategy. The fund also benefits from the support of the Official Credit Institute (ICO) and the Valencian Institute of Finance (IVF) as it enters this new phase.

With its rebrand and fresh capital, Mission aims to be a go-to partner for Spain’s most ambitious founders at pre-seed—providing the early conviction, operational insight, and follow-on resources needed to build enduring technology companies.
