India secures 50 practical outcomes under BRICS chairship

India has concluded its 2026 BRICS Chairship with more than 50 practical outcomes across four priority areas—resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability—emphasising development-oriented, people-centric initiatives. The outcomes were presented following the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

Over the course of the chairship, India convened more than 350 meetings—both physical and virtual—spanning thematic clusters, ministerial sessions, working groups, business forums, and people-focused activities. The agenda sought to deliver concrete solutions, build consensus, and strengthen collaboration among member states.

Resilience

Initiatives under resilience focused on food and health security, mental wellness, and disaster preparedness. Key actions included:

  • BRICS Centre for Excellence in Agroecology
  • BRICS Network on Physical Agriculture
  • BRICS Mission for Healthy Lifestyle
  • Cooperation on mental wellness
  • Disaster risk reduction and management initiatives

Innovation

To advance science, research, technology, and entrepreneurship, the innovation pillar delivered platforms and financing mechanisms to accelerate collaboration and scale up startups. Notable measures included:

  • BRICS Science and Research Repository
  • Startup Innovation Fund
  • BRICS Incubator Network

Cooperation

The cooperation pillar strengthened trade facilitation, MSME support, and supply chain connectivity across member countries. Outcomes included:

  • BRICS MSME Cooperation Portal
  • Initiatives on global value chain integration
  • BRICS Logistics and Supply Chain Cooperation Framework

Sustainability

Efforts under sustainability targeted clean energy, climate resilience, and urban transformation. Major areas of collaboration included:

  • Smart grids and energy storage
  • Climate-resilient urban infrastructure
  • Sustainable urban mobility
  • Climate-resilient agriculture

India underscored that the success of a chairship is measured not by the number of meetings, but by the quality of participation, consensus-building, and tangible outcomes. The New Delhi Declaration and the slate of more than 50 initiatives provide a strong foundation for the next phase of BRICS cooperation.
