‘This one’s for you, Elon Musk’: INOX Group’s Siddharth Jain receives India Inc’s first Tesla EV

Tesla’s long-anticipated entry into India has a new milestone: Siddharth Jain, Executive Director of the INOX Group, announced that he has taken delivery of what he calls “India Inc’s first Tesla.” Sharing his excitement on social media, Jain dedicated the moment to Elon Musk and recalled waiting for this day since his visit to Tesla’s Fremont factory in 2017.

Tesla’s India launch gathers pace

Tesla officially debuted in the Indian market on July 15 with the opening of its first showroom in Mumbai. The 4,000-square-foot space is located at the Maker Maxity Mall in Bandra Kurla Complex, an upscale business district. The inauguration took place in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, underscoring the importance of the launch for the state’s EV roadmap.

At the event, Tesla introduced the Model Y to the Indian market, available in six color options:

  • Stealth grey
  • Pearl white
  • Diamond black
  • Glacier blue
  • Quick silver
  • Ultra red

Pricing details indicate that the Model Y carries an on-road price of approximately Rs 61 lakh in Mumbai. The rear-wheel drive variant is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh, while the long range rear-wheel drive version is listed at Rs 67.89 lakh.

Online orders and delivery focus

Building on the physical showroom debut, Tesla launched online ordering in India on July 22. The company is prioritizing deliveries across four major metropolitan regions: Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, and Gurugram. This dual approach—combining a flagship retail presence with nationwide digital ordering—signals a strong commitment to scaling operations in one of the world’s largest developing markets.

Expansion in the Delhi-NCR region

Further anchoring its presence, Tesla has leased 8,200 square feet of commercial space at Worldmark 3 in Delhi’s Aerocity. The monthly rent is Rs 17.22 lakh. Registration documents show that Tesla India Motor & Energy Pvt. Ltd. entered into the agreement with Oak Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., indicating a strategic footprint in the capital region to support sales, service, or corporate operations.

Why Siddharth Jain’s delivery matters

Jain’s early delivery is a symbolic moment for India’s corporate sector, reflecting growing confidence in EV adoption at the executive level. His public celebration—framed as “for Elon Musk”—captures the enthusiasm around Tesla’s official start in the country. It also underscores a broader shift: premium EVs are moving from curiosity to commitment, bolstered by expanding infrastructure, policy support, and heightened consumer awareness.

What to watch next

  • Additional retail and service locations as Tesla scales across more cities.
  • Delivery timelines and variant availability as demand ramps up.
  • Local partnerships and potential manufacturing or assembly plans over the longer term.

With a flagship showroom open, online orders underway, space secured in Delhi-NCR, and early deliveries to high-profile business leaders, Tesla’s India story is shifting from anticipation to execution. For prospective buyers and industry watchers alike, the momentum suggests this is only the beginning.
