CityFreighter unveils electric motorhome based on Evolve platform – electrive.com
CityFreighter, together with Vöhringer and Motive Development, has presented an all-electric motorhome demonstrator at the 2026 Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf. Built on CityFreighter’s new Evolve low-floor skateboard platform, the concept targets the European Class B category for vehicles up to 4.25 tonnes and showcases how a flat, modular chassis can unlock fresh layouts and better ergonomics for recreational vehicles.
Low-floor architecture for more space and comfort
The Evolve platform’s flat floor reduces the entry height and creates generous standing room throughout the living area. Despite integrating the full camping setup, the demonstrator remains impressively light thanks to Vöhringer’s AIRPLY lightweight construction. With the battery, kitchen, bathroom and a heat pump on board, the vehicle’s mass stays under 3.5 tonnes, preserving roughly 750 kilograms of payload.
Key dimensions of the living space are 6.95 x 2.35 x 2.72 metres, offering a large, unobstructed interior. Motive Development designed the vehicle’s exterior and overall architecture, while CityFreighter supplied the Evolve skateboard platform. Additional project partners include OPES Solar Mobility, Dometic, Isringhausen, Euramax, Zambelli, Jokon and Nolden.
Battery, charging and off-grid capability

The battery system is engineered for independent maintenance, replacement or upgrades, giving operators a path to lower lifecycle costs and improved residual values. For motorhomes that typically remain in service for decades, the ability to refresh energy storage without redesigning the entire vehicle represents a notable long-term advantage.
Designed to scale across niche segments
While CityFreighter is known for urban logistics solutions, the company sees the Evolve platform as a versatile foundation for specialist vehicles beyond delivery vans. By standardizing a universal electric architecture, demand from comparatively small segments—such as motorhomes or refrigerated transport—can be consolidated to achieve economies of scale. The demonstrator illustrates how one EV platform can efficiently serve multiple applications that were previously too small to justify bespoke vehicle development.
Interior comfort meets efficient packaging
Vöhringer’s AIRPLY materials contribute to a rigid yet lightweight interior, helping the motorhome remain within weight thresholds while accommodating essential amenities. The low floor maximizes headroom and facilitates more flexible layouts, making it easier to create accessible spaces without compromising storage or comfort. The integration of a heat pump further enhances year-round usability by efficiently managing interior climate.

The electric motorhome demonstrator from CityFreighter, Vöhringer and Motive Development is on display at the Caravan Salon in Hall 13, Stand A95. CityFreighter was founded by German manager Michael Schoening in Santa Barbara, California, and operates a European office in Geilenkirchen, underscoring the company’s dual focus on North American and European markets.
With its combination of a low-floor EV platform, long-range battery, fast charging, V2L functionality and modular upgradability, the concept points to how future electric motorhomes could deliver car-like charging convenience, improved interior freedom and lower total cost of ownership—without sacrificing payload or living comfort.
